If you listened to episode 191 of the podcast you will know that we have had to move house this month. We did it last week and as you can imagine, we’re pretty tired.
It’s the first time I’ve had to move house in four years. This was pretty stable after living in 7 different locations between 2004 and 2013. But when it comes to moving I’m a bit out of practice.
We’re in now and settling. Boxes are unpacked and we’ve been busy turning the space into home. This, I realise is very important for many introverts and HSPs; creating the feeling of comfort and familiarity in our everyday environments.
Change and Upheaval
In this episode I reflect on different parts of the moving process and how we have dealt with them as introverts/HSPs.
There has been overwhelm and exhaustion. From being told we had to get some of our previous house because the landlord was selling up. To working out what we would do and getting our heads around the logistics of actually moving. And most recently, getting used to a brand new place in a busy part of town, where things feel, sound, and look very different.
The one word that I have come back to again and again throughout the entire process is: ENERGY.
House Move Energy
Energy creation and management is a key concept to get a grip on for all introverts and sensitive types. At times of upheaval and change it is especially important to keep on top of. I know for me it’s so easy to let things spiral and to neglect self-care in order to ‘get things done’. To not invest in taking care of the important things because there is so much urgent stuff to do.
The thread of this episode is the creation and maintenance of energy during upheaval and transition. We think about where and when to find help (and when NOT to), how to take care of ourselves physically, and the different types of energy drains we might encounter.
Resources for Energy Creation
In the show I mention a resource list that I developed. I created it for myself to start with, as a reminder of the habits and tools I want to continue utilising after the move. I find it easy to be derailed! But I thought it would be useful to share with you.
If you want to take a proactive approach to energy creation and management then check it out. I specifically providing tools and habits related to the three big areas: sleep, nutrition, and movement.
Over the past year or so I’ve been blown away by some of the resources that have helped me become healthier, happier and more energised.
It’s my list of stuff that works for me. It’s not definitive and I’ve only added things that I actually use and love. Everyone is unique and will respond in different ways to things – what works for me might not work for you and vice versa, but it’s designed as a starting point. A list to inspire you with ideas to get you going.
Over to You
I’d love to hear your experiences of moving house. What do you find most draining or overwhelming? And is there anything you would do differently next time? Or perhaps, is there something you did last time that you are really glad you did and would make sure you did again? Leave your response in the comments below.
