Welcome to Episode 130 of the Sheep Dressed Like Wolves Podcast. In this episode I discuss why for many introverts and highly sensitive people a diverse range of income streams can be a freeing way to create a much sought-after living filled with meaning and variety.
I AM a multipotentiliate which means I have loads of interests and creative projects that I want to pursue. I don’t feel like I have one ‘calling’ in life, unless it is a calling to have lots of different things you want to do. And yes perhaps that’s exactly right.
It can be difficult to use this to make a living.
Multipotentialites can be made to feel like they have commitment issues, unable to focus and settle on one path as we believe we should. But this is not what’s going on and it is not an unusual way to interact with the world, especially for introverts and highly sensitive people.
The more I have connected with people who feel this way the more I realise it is more natural for a great many of us to be like this. We want to make a living doing work that matters to us and we feel more compelled to explore a whole variety of what the world has to offer than to settle on one specific path and move with tunnel vision down it.
Over the past ten years I have continued to battle this conflict between the need to make a living and the importance of making a life. In this week’s episode I felt compelled to share with you what this has come to look like for me and how I have found a range of income streams has freed me to make a living whilst engaging in a work that brings me much-needed variety and meaning.
The five streams of income I talk you through are:
- Traditional Employment
- Freelance Work
- Creative Expression
- Online Business and Blogging
And an extra surprise stream:
Responding to Physical Need
