Do you have loads of interests, ideas and paths that you really want to explore? Do you, like me, get distracted by other things when you have committed to focus on something else?
This is a massive thing for many of us introverts and highly sensitive people.
We’re often by nature big daydreamers and allow our thoughts to veer off in all sorts of directions. I don’t know about you but it’s rare that I go a day without thinking of another idea that I’d like to explore.
One of the commitments I felt compelled to make at the start of this year was to take on anything new, but to focus on what I’m already doing and delve deeper within them.
‘Less but better’ and more focussed.
I’m pretty terrible for having a new idea and deciding I need to drop everything else in order to pursue it. I’ll try fitting way more into my schedule than there is room for and then get stressed out when I can’t manage to do all the things I want to do.
I know that many of you suffer from this kind of thing too. You have so many things that you want to find time for but they just get left undone. Or you have many pursuits that you want to engage with and feel guilty when forced to focus on one at a time.
We can become paralysed by indecision
Life can feel a lot like Netflix. I’ve recently banned myself from scrolling aimlessly through films and TV shows because I find myself unable to choose. I experience what I can only describe as a fear of missing out on a universal and near infinite level. Choosing one means saying no to all the others. I want to watch everything, which leads me unable to settle on anything.
We can face so many options, so many possibilities, so many potential avenues to go down in life that we find it impossible to focus and settle on doing something. I know I do.
I’m a multipotentialite by nature, meaning I am energised and brought to life by the fact I have many different creative goals and pursuits in life. That is not the problem. Knowing how to deal with all the options and potential avenues that I want to explore is.
What can we do? How can we maintain our focus without compromising our excitement and ability to thrive off shifting our focus in a broad and wondrous world?
